My name is Kawelo Kong Kee I was born and raised in Honolulu Hawaii. My grandparents Sam and Florence Kong Kee from my fathers family were entertainers so I was exposed to music and dance from a young age. My grandmother was a hula teacher and my grandfather was a musician, and singer, of Hawaiian music.
I learned my hula from my grandmother, and later as I was in intermediate school I danced under the direction of Darrel Lupenui and the men of Waimapuna.I started performing in public from a young age and my first Merrie Monarch in 1980.

Then I attended the Kamehameha Schools in Kapalama on the island of O‘ahu, and was introduced to choral singing. It was here at Kamehameha schools where I started singing and playing Hawaiian music and learning more musical knowledge.

After high school I moved to the big island of Hawaii, and started chanting with Uncle Johnny Lum Ho and his Halau o ka ua kani lehua. I have been a part of this hula school until today. Uncle Johnny has been a big inspiration in my hula that I create until today. I have had the oppurtunity to live and work in such cities as San Fransisco, Mexico, and Orlando Florida where I performed with Walt Disney World and Universal Studios.
